New storyboard

Here I had to change the storyboard as our original idea got changed due to realising faults within our ideas ie, realising we wouldnt be able to find the right location, we couldnt find appropriate actors in time, and the props we would of needed, realisticly wouldnt be possible to use. Therefore we had to come up with a new idea and change the storyboard to fit our new critiria, by using different characters, different locations. By doing this it made our idea a lot more stronger and come together easier than before.

First draft storyboard

Account of locations requirements

The locations we require for our sequence are a bedroom and a corridor. We chose to use the studio as the bedroom as we could build it just as we want it. For the corridor we thought we would use one in a bording house. We needed the corridor to look like it was part of a clinic, so the enviroment had to be very hospital like.

Account of casting decision

When are group discussed who we were going to use for our actors we looked at some people that our teacher recomemded and chose out of them. We needed a man who looked about 35-45 and a woman who looked fairly mature.

Cast list

All of these props were used to show in the camera shots, makings of the bomb, and to make everything look a lot more realistic, by doing all of this, the quality of the shot would be a lot stronger. Ie, using wires was usefull because it shows the makings of the bomb itself, using the clippers as a close up on the camera is usefull because it creates more tension towards the actor who is making the bomb. Simple things like clothing, we wanted our actor to not look like a stereotypical terrorist, therefore we decided to dress him in simple clothing.

Target audience

The target audience we have chosen is 15 and above. The social class is middle class we chose this because it has a complicated story line. It is mainly aimed at the male gender because it is rather graphic and the male sterotype likes a graphic movie.

Logo

We have now come up with a name and logo for out thriller, we created this by the use of photoshop, however before coming up with the name we had to research a varies of names for the title, by doing this we then came up with 'Dark puddle productions'.

Floor Plan

This is the floor plan too our set in the studio, aswell as our logo towards the thriller.
This is the room of which we will be shooting in, prior to shooting we felt it was a good idea to arrange the way the room would be set out and how things were going to look
By doing this we then were able to prepare a floor plan to assist us on aciding upon different camera positions & where things would be shot, and we were then able to plan our location set properly.

.

^This is a floor plan with the ideal lighting set up.

Treatment & storyboarding

Treatment & storyboaring

For our sequence we decided to go on the idea of a mental illness. We chose OCD as we thought that it brought an interesting view on a thriller. There are two people in our sequence. One of them is a man in his room in a clinic who suffers from the mental illness OCD. The other character is a Nurse who works at the clinic who occasionally treats the patient. The whole sequence takes place in the clinic. The general idea is that the patient at the clinic is trying to kill himself in a very OCD like manor. For example he is very precise with the electrocution kit he is using to kill himself. The man will measure out wires and cut them to perfection. While this is happening the nurse will be walking down the corridor. The tension is created by the suspense of weather the nurse will save the patient or not. We would do this by building a set in the TV studio of the mans room and filming a corridor which the Nurse will walk down.

Are location for the man’s bedroom will be a set in the TV studio, and we will use one of the corridors in a house for the Nurse to walk down.

Our sequence generates tension by the man setting up his death and seeing if the Nurse will save him in time.

Meeting on storyboarding

The locations we require for our sequence are a bedroom and a corridor. We chose to use the studio as the bedroom as we could build it just as we want it. For the corridor we thought we would use one in a bording house. We needed the corridor to look like it was part of a clinic, so the enviroment had to be very hospital like.

Account of the research sources

In order to help us develop our initial idea we consulted a range of existing texts in order to observe their use of camera, sound, lighting, music, atmosphere , narrative ideas , casting etc...

OCD-

The main idea for our sequence is based on OCD, therefore I looked on google, and researched the facts and sources.

We found that these are the symtoms -

-Thoughts, images, or impulses that occur over and over again and feel out of the person's control.
-The person does not want to have these ideas.
-He or she finds them disturbing and unwanted, and usually know that they don't make sense.
-They come with uncomfortable feelings, such as fear, disgust, doubt, or a feeling that things have to be done in a way that is "just right."
-They take a lot of time and get in the way of important activities the person values.

We related the treatment issues of why he is in the clinic to how people really get treated for OCD.

Getting professional help is the best way to deal with OCD. Treatment can help you to gain control over your obsessions and to stop carrying out compulsions. Treatment may include psychological treatments, medicines or a combination of these.

Initial production group meeting & discussion of draft idea

Our initial idea discussed the possibility of a narative that ivolved around the concept of a child killer. Specific images that were discussed included.

- lady behind bars( in prison)
- Child behind cot bars
- Child and knife
- blood scene with child ontop of parents
- parents both killed

These initial images/concepts were discussed in order to begin to build a basic frame work upon which to base the idea/concepts. This was very much a draft concept that required significant extra work before being able to begin planning and storyboarding etc. However the idea it was important to make it look orthentic and employed the conventions of the genre(generating suspense towards the audience)

Acount of giving presentations for possible thriller ideas

We pictched ideas for prep on possible ideas for our thriller , which we then had to do a presentation in class to show our ideas and then our class would vote on which they liked best so that we had 3 final ideas for our groups. We had to include an acount of who our target audience was, and what kind of instition would make our film. My idea was of a posessed woman visiting a family member at a grave yard from her near by church, which had dead people awakening behind her from the background running towards her with blood filled faces and ghostly faces. Background noises are quite from the begining, with the sound of crunched leaves as she walks towards the graves, and then screams when she is sat down at the grave.

Another idea was of a distressed child on a camping trip with his classmates. Walking round the forest waiting for one of his classmates to come out, however his type of playing games were to do with death, so the whole idea was he was trying to kill his friends. In the background there would of been childen running round screaming with blood on there faces and bodies.

After this we had to vote on everyones ideas and come up with the 3 best ones.

What is horror?

Sounds pretty simple, asking people what horror is? But its actually not...

Horror films are movies that strive to elicit the emotions of fear, horror and terror from viewers. Their plots frequently involve themes of death, the supernatural or mental illness. They deal with our most primal nature and its fears: our nightmares, our vulnerability, our alienation, our revulsions, our terror of the unknown, our fear of death and dismemberment, loss of identity, or fear of sexuality.

In horror movies, a great deal of suspense will be used to help build up in the audiences minds. They are usually related or set in everyday situations, so the audience are able to relate it to themselves.

Another good example of horror, is by using a set range of charactors in the set, for example, clowns, most people are now scared of clowns, as they are seen as scary pervy men dressed in costumes. Another example of horror charactors are children, as the idea of the child having more power over all the charactors acting like adults can create a scary vibe.

What is a thriller?

Okay, here it goes

A thriller can be difined by the mood it gives to the audience, for example, if it makes you excited.. or it gives you thrills, then its a thriller, just like in a horror film, if it makes you scared, then its a horror!

Most people find thrillers enjoyable, as it gives the feeling of excitement ,this is done by the genre in the films. This genre is incredibly large, and thrillers often overlap with pieces of work produced in other genres; mysteries, for example, are often thrillers.

Several characteristics help to define a thriller. Thrillers typically involve sudden plot twists and lots of red herrings, for example, keeping people unsure about what is going to happen. This suspense can get almost unbearable, especially in a long piece or a television series. Thrillers also have a lot of action, which is often chaotic, and they typically feature resourceful heroes and exotic settings.

Acount of editing preliminary task

So in this task we had to edit our film, we did this by using final cut pro which is a software package run on G5 macs, it is a non linear editing package which is timeline based. Before this though, we had to learn about the software before I used to, some of which was, it is a safe and reliable way of not losing work, as it is a system which allows your prodject to be checked 'out' & 'in' to a seperate server. After this, we then logged our rushes(filmed material) which was done by selecting the best shots and takes into a 'logged bin' which is selected the best by making an 'in' point and 'out' point. After this we placed the shots chronologically on a timeline then trim and cut them to create the illusion of a simulataneous event. This is all we got up to in the lesson, however next lesson we will be adding the sound and then moving onto creating the special effects.

Shooting the preliminary task

Last friday, in a group of four we filmed our preliminary task sequence in the tv suite, this location was brilliant, we got to shoot here as we won the filming task which involved following a storyboard of a conversatrion between two people insuring that we followed technical conventions such as -, it was in focus, we didnt break the 180 degree rule, was the shot type correct, good continuity, was everyone following there certain jobs, did we use the appropriate terminology to make sure everyone on set knew what was happening,'stand by etc'? etc. From what we have seen so far, it went really well, the actors were really good, and the filming was done correctly, however we did make a few mistakes at the start, but thats what we learnt from, so we only made a couple of mistakes, such as filming over another sequence which wasnt very good, but we soon learnt not to do it again. My specific job was on lighting, I had to decide at which times the lighting changed which was really effective as it could change the setting of the scence, eg morning, evening, afternoon. So after all of this, it gave us experience of shooting in a proper studio which give it a special feel to it. I have learnt so much from all of this, and feel it has benifitted me so much more actually using the cameras in action, rather than just looking and learning about them, therefore I now know how to put the correct settings on the camera, how to shoot at the right angles, and which directions to shout out. This was so far the best task we have done and I cant wait to edit it and see how it turns out!

see youu

So far in Media

Hi guys,

So basically, this is just a little note on telling you the things we have got upto in our media class so far, its been pretty busy, these are some of the practicals we have got upto, and what we will be doing in the next week, all very exciting, enjoy:)

Okay, so far we have covered quite alot, for example in the first week, we did a practical on a filming an interview for a tv programme, we learnt how to use the cameras, and which direction to use them and lighting adjustments, this exercise was like an introduction to our media class, it also helped us bond as a class which was very positive.

Secondly, we had to go out of the classroom, and take photos in little groups, of different camera shots, for example, mid shots, close ups, wide shots, varies of different shots, we didnt know this at the time, but it built up to be helpfull for our prep that week. Also gave us the chance to experiment with the cameras and different types of shots.

Thirdly, we had a lesson on how to use the cameras, and how to put them together and to use the correct camera settings, this lesson was probably one of the most important ones as if we didnt know how to use a camera then the whole next few weeks would turn into a disaster as we wouldnt know what to do, this was building up for the film clip which we will be filming sometime this week. It was really helpfull, now i know how to use the camera and put it together without breaking it! :)

Also, we got taken into the computer suite, and got taught how to use photoshop-wow its amazing, you can edit yourself and make it look amazing, soso good. That evening we got set a prep on making a horror poster but we had to use our own photos and use photoshop, it was a bit tricky at first, but i soon got used to it and now have it installed on my own laptop!

Further more, we had to do a little mini film clip in groups, which was going to be assessed, I was in a group of 3, we had to remember how to use the cameras, how to put them together, and which settings to put them in, which of course wasnt a problem-duhhh!:) we filmed someone walking down the stairs and getting a drink, however we did it from different angles, close ups, midshots, tracking high, low. It went really well, and we won the task and now get to do the real film clip in the video studio which is amazing and I cant waitttttttttt!

So the next task, as I mentioned is to film a clip in the tv studio, which is super exciting, ill let you know how it goes!

Catch ya later xx

Blade poster

Another prep we had to do was to create a blade poster, by using different slogans, images, and titles. In mine I used photoshop, which helped me create a more scary looking poster, rather than a dull and boring one made on microsoft word. I used the scary looking colours, to create a dark and vibrant atmosphere in the poster, and give the target audience something good to look at. In the end my poster looked really scary by using photoshop, without this it would have looked very boring!

izz x
For prep, we had to create a horror poster, in order to do this we had to use photoshop, this helps us to make horror things become more realistic and real. By having a good horror poster, it will be will a succesfull type of advertising, and make people want to watch the film. To make a good horror themed poster, i used lots of dark groosome colours, there is a tool on photoshop called the liquify tool, which stretches and moves the bits of the picture that u want. I used this alot in my poster, I made the boys ears big, his nose big, finer nails.... without this, the poster would look like an ordinary boy, who doesnt even look scary. This is why photoshop is an essential tool in the media industry right now, for good advertisment and entertainment.

Catchyahlaterrrrr:)

Basicly , this is me and my brother in spain, its a wide shot of our bodies, even if we do look a bit strange. Its shot at a low angle, which for this doesnt make it a very good photo

:)

Hey ,

Well here is another photo of me at a party... with my friends, dont you think the lighting is a bit bright? Maybe it was on the wrong sort of setting, who knows?! camera angle is a close up of our faces,-lovely! Also a midshot of half our bodies. Oh by the way, im the one with the blonde hair!
Hi guyssssssss

Well, this is me!
This photo is basicly just a portrait of me( yes with a bit of editing - but who cares! )
Its a mid shot photo taken from a restaurant in france, however can you see the lady in the background of me, chewing on her food- GROSS? I should of really cropped her out or blurred the background, the photo itself is fine, its just the surroundings that suck. Lighting is quite dark, so it could of been a bit brighter, I dont know weather the flash was on , so that may have been the problem. The camera angle is based at eye line, which works quite well I think.

Anyway, more photos to come!

catch ya laterrrrrr :)

Welcome!

Hey there,
Im Isabelle but call me Izzy im in As. Welcome to my blog!:)
Basicly I have chosen media because I really enjoy the topics we cover, its just a really different subject to take, as it includes loads of different areas, also watching films has given my inspiration to take it up as a subject. I enjoy varies of music, which include hiphop(dizzee rascal, tinchy stryder, lady gaga, littleboots) dance , anything really however I am not to keen on classical or heavy rock metal-yuck! I enjoy watching films, and i have a favorite tv episode which is called Gossip girl. I also enjoy playing our nintendo wii, its so much fun! But dont you find it so weird, that all these things that I have mentioned, actually include media , now you probably understand why I wanted to study it so much.

Anyway gotta go,

Enjoy!
